well, when we got home Yogi and I decided to give it a last ditch effort behind the house. Moose season ends on the 30th, we had three days left before we had to go back to work. Why not right?
We get up to our spot to hunt at about 0750 in the morning or so and sit and wait for a while. Yogi decides to go up the hill a bit to cover more ground. He comes back down after a few hours and we don't even realize it's almost 1pm! Anyway, neither of us have much faith in calling, but we try anyway. So here I am trying my hardest to sound like cow by pinching my nose and saying "eeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrwwwweerrrrrrrr" for as long as I can with one breath. Yogi scrapes the tree a few times with a peice of bark to sound like a bull. We do this for about an hour or so. Then I hear this rustling in the grass to my left and there's this cow that pops up. Can't harvest a cow so we just watch her only 25 yards away from us. I'm thinking, cool, at least we saw something, Maybe a bull will follow her up here. We keep calling and calling, scrape the tree a few times, probably for another hour or so. Then I hear something that kind of sounds like a dog barking in the distance. Yogi's looking the other way, I turn to him and tap him on the shoulder and whisper, "Hey Yog, is that a dog?" Yogi turns around and His eyes get really really big! I mean big, I'm almost laughing cause I couldn't believe the expression on His face! "Don't move, There a huge bull right behind you!" He whispers. I say, "what? whatever!" I'm not buying this one. But then Yogi's getting his bow ready and now I'm starting to think, ok maybe he's not joking. I slowly turn around to pick up my bow and sure enough, there in the sun glistening are these huge antlers about 25yards away. Then he starts moving closer to us, and now he's facing us at which point seemed like he's getting ready to charge us. I'm thinking, "Oh crud....This is not good. I really do not want to get speared and trampled by a bull moose!" And then the bull turns just the right way 20 yards from us and the rest is history. Biggest Dog I'd ever seen! By no means a record breaker but I know God was planning on giving us this wonderful experience. What a Treat!! Thank You Lord for providing us with meat for two families for a very long time!! And Thank You for sending Eric to help us pack out all the meat! That might have been an even longer night!!!
